Arkansas River Royal Gorge
PINE CREEK: The most challenging stretch of the Arkansas River. Only for those who have paddled the Royal Gorge or the Numbers with us before. Class IV-V

NUMBERS (1-6): The Arkansas River starts out with a bang. This section is run only at certain water levels and paddlers must be at least 18 years of age. Class III-IV+

BOULDER NARROWS (NUMBERS 7-10): This section is below the rush of the Numbers (1-10) above and brings you into the narrowest part of the Arkansas River. Touch the canyon sides as you slip downstream into gorgeous ponderosa and pinion pine forests. We start our overnight trips through Browns Canyon up here and get you off to whitewater straight away. A warm up for beginner paddle crews. Class II & III

BROWNS CANYON: Downstream of the Numbers the Arkansas slices through solid granite making Browns canyon. A new challenge or an exhilarating first timer experience. Class II-III+

SALIDA:
Here the canyon walls open to beautiful views of the snow-covered Sangre de Cristo Mountains rising to over 14,000 feet. This is an excellent milder section for younger children or new rafters or for those seeking some excellent Arkansas River float fishing. We often put our kayak instruction students here for a mild challenge to basic skills. An easy float for timid rafters or beginner kayakers. Class I-II

BIG HORN SHEEP CANYON:
Given its name for the herd of sheep that are often seen on the hills surrounding this section, the rapids of the Arkansas River pick up the pace to Class III. A great section for paddlers who want some whitewater excitement without going over the edge! This section combined with a trip on the upper river makes a wonderful 2 to 4 day whitewater adventure. We finish this days run at our exclusive riverfront dining and camping facilities at Parkdale Center, located at the opening to the world famous Royal Gorge. Camping and hot showers await you at the end of the trip. Class III

ROYAL GORGE: Put your finger on the pulse of excitement. The "Gorge" was once the place where boaters took their boats out and let the river flow on alone. The Royal Gorge has become a world reknown example of the best of whitewater thrills. Minimum age to raft this section is 18. Class IV
